Welcome to Year 5!

Welcome to Term 3! Our topic this term is Explosive! In Science, we will be exploring the properties of materials, while in History we will be heading back into time and learning about the Anglo Saxons and the Scots.

Writing:

In writing we will be reading The Journey by Francesca Sanna

This beautifully illustrated picture book introduces a powerful and moving perspective on migration. Told through the eyes of a young girl, the story explores the unimaginable decisions made as a mother and her two children are forced to flee their home and everyone they know to escape the turmoil of war. 

 

PE

Our PE days this term are Tuesday (Hockey with Montague) and Wednesday (Dodgeball). Children are expected to come in their PE kits on these days. Our PE kit is black joggers or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and green school jumper as usual. Please ensure your child has trainers that are suitable for movement to ensure safety whilst participating. 

 

Homework

It is important for your child to read every day at home for at least 10 minutes. Your child will also ask you to sign their reading record so they can collect extra dojo points. Your child’s reading book needs to come to school every day. 

Your child has access to Times Tables Rockstars and should practise their times tables as often as possible to support their mathematics.

Please provide your child with fresh drinking water in a resealable bottle daily. Squash or fizzy drinks are not suitable. A piece of fruit or vegetables will be a perfect break-time snack. As the weather is variable this time of year please remember to bring a coat.
